I founded American Institute of Appraisal with the idea that appraisal education should be open and available to all Americans. For many years the appraisal profession was not openly advertised to the public. I am proud and honored that American Institute is on a mission to make appraisal education openly available to anyone who is willing to work hard to succeed. In cooperation with several service agencies, American Institute of Appraisal has built "bridges to opportunity" for  many single mothers (many who do not receive child support), people downsized out of Corporate America (many who are older) and left unemployed, foreign born Americans who have English as a second language (and occasionally need extra tutoring), and countless American minorities.
Our employees, my family, as well as my personal pedigree are multi-cultural, multi-religious, and multi-ethnic. American Institute is truly American in every sense of the word. I began my real estate career at the age of 21. I had no money, so I borrowed a down payment and bought a 4 unit property that needed re-hab. I didn't know much about construction. It was trial by fire, but I learned as I went. I made money in spite of my lack of experience. Other real estate investors started contacting me for advice. This ultimately led to my appraisal career. In 1980 I began appraising part time, which became a full-time career in 1986. In 1990, I established what would become a 13 person appraisal company, which I sold in 1997.
I earned several professional designations from national appraisal organizations, and am fortunate to be recognized as a national speaker and lecturer. I have actively been teaching Real Estate Appraisal, Finance, Brokerage-Sales, and Investing since 1988. Prior to founding American Institute of Appraisal (www.AIAREE.com) I served on the faculties of Moraine Valley College, a national appraisal organization headquartered in Chicago as a Certified  National Instructor, and several well known Chicago schools. I have also been a radio personality and an officer with a law enforcement agency in Chicago.
