Q. Is American Institute Of Appraisal & Real Estate Education, Inc. (AIAREE) affiliated with the State Of Illinois, or any other schools or professional organizations? |
|
| |
Q. Who regulates the licensing of appraisers? |
A. The IDFPR (with qualifications being set by The Appraisal Foundation in Washington, DC) regulates real estate appraisers. IDFPR also regulates and licenses education providers. |
| |
Q. Do other states have a reciprocity agreement with Illinois? |
A. Reciprocity is an agreement between two (2) states honoring each other’s licensing requirements. An appraiser licensed in one of these states can apply for a license in the other state without furnishing experience or education requirements. Click to check which states have reciprocity with Illinois. |
| |
Q. How much education must I complete to become licensed? |
A. "Associate Real Estate Appraiser" (entry level licensing category) requires 75 hours of state mandated education, which we present in three separate courses, namely:
ILR1-08 - Basic Appraisal Principles 30 Hours
ILR2-08 - Basic Appraisal Procedures 30 Hours
ILR3-08 - USPAP National Course 15 Hours |
| |
Q. How are the courses structured, on what days, and where is the classroom? |
A. The courses are:
ILR1-08 - four days (may be taken on two weekends or four days in a row i.e. Sat-Tue)
ILR2-08 - four days (may be taken on two weekends or four days in a row i.e. Sat-Tue)
ILR3-08 - two days in a row (typically Saturday & Sunday)
All classes run from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Presently, all courses are taught at our Oakbrook/Lombard location on the northeast corner of Main and 22nd Street in Suite 301. Click for map. WE PROVIDE FREE PARKING TO OUR STUDENTS. |
| |
Q. Must courses be taken in order? |
A. It is recommended that students start with the ILR1-08 Basic Principles and follow with the ILR2-08 Basic Principles class, and last the 15-Hr USPAP ILR3-08 (Ethics and Rules) be taken after Illinois 1 and Illinois 2 are completed. Illinois 3 contains information that is better understood after having taken Illinois 1 and 2 . ILR1-08 must be taken prior to ILR2-08. |
| |
Q. Will I have to pass a state test after completing the three courses? |
A. Yes. In addition to passing the tests that are associated with the courses, you must make application to the state and pay application/testing fees (approximately $300) to take the Associate Real Estate Appraiser exam. |
| |
Q. Once I get my Associate License, what do I do next? |
A. An Associate must work under the supervision of a State Certified Appraiser for a minimum of two years. After two years, an Associate may qualify to upgrade to the certified level by: taking additional classes, provide the state with a two-year experience log, take the certified exam, and submit a new application. At that point, you would be solely responsible for your work, and could open your own appraisal company. |
| |
Q. Can I qualify for the Value Package if I pay for one course at a time? |
A. Unfortunately, no. The "Three Course Value Package" is just that—a package—and we cannot deviate from the individual course pricing once you are on a pay as you go basis. State rules require us to charge everyone the same price. If you want the discount, you must order the package when you register. |
|
Q. Do you offer classes to upgrade your license?
|
A. Yes we do, on the registration page we have listed all the courses for upgrading to a certified residential appraiser . We are very proud that every course is AQB approved and all of our courses are licensed by the state of Illinois.
If you have questions email Lynn or Martin. |
|
Q. How do I know what classes I need to upgrade to the next licensing level? |
A. You can call or email Lynn and she will be happy to go over the classes needed in order to qualify for upgrading your license. Lynn is the Director of education and is happy to work with each student by answering all questions. Email Lynn or Martin.
For any other questions you have, email Lynn or Martin.

“I wanted to let you know that I took my test today. I passed! I don't know by how much, but I did it. I want you to know that the classes I took with you were, of course, the greatest. Your teaching style makes it easy to learn and understand. I will recommend you and your school to anyone I know who wishes to get in this field. Also, I can't imagine that I will take the continuing ed classes anywhere but with you.Thank you for all of your help!"
